The music was written by Francis Lai, the lyrics by Carl Sigman. The song was published in 1970. The music was introduced in the movie, Love Story.
Many recorded versions of this song now exist. The biggest hit version was recorded by Andy Williams. The song would also be recorded successfully by Lai himself with a full orchestra and by Henry Mancini and Shirley Bassey.
