Ōita (大分市 Ōita-shi?) is the capital city of Ōita Prefecture on the Kyūshū island of Japan.

As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 441,270 and the density of 1,223 persons per km². The total area is 360.84 km².

Outside of the city, nearby scenery includes seaside fishing villages, Takasaki-yama mountain (高崎山) inhabited by monkeys, towns renowned for onsen (geothermal hot springs), and mountain plateaus.

Historically known as Bungo.
