January: The Muhammad Drawings which were published in Jyllands-Posten on 30 September 2005, partially a protest against the trend to not publish drawings of Muhammad to not provoke mulims, draw attention abroard. On January 20 people in Saudi Arabia call for a boycott of Danish products, which spreads to other countries. The drawers, and in some cases Danes in general, receive death threats. Islamic Jihad gives Danes, Norwegians and Swedes 48 hours to leave the Gaza Strip, and on 30 January gunmen from Fatah briefly take over an E.U. office.
- 26 January: Saudi Arabia decides to call back their ambassador due to the controversial Muhammad Drawings
- 21 January: The son of Crown Prince Frederik is baptised as Christian Valdemar Henri John.
