[edit] Potential Bids

[edit] Europe

Zürich, Switzerland is considering a bid. [citations needed] Switzerland has previously hosted the Winter Olympics twice, in 1928 and 1948. Lausanne also hosted the 50th anniversary celebratory games in 1944, in lieu of the war-cancelled 1944 Olympics.

Vaduz, Liechtenstein is considering a bid. [citations needed] Liechtenstein has never hosted the Olympics.

[edit] New Zealand

Queenstown, New Zealand is believed to be considering a bid for the 2022 Games. [citations needed] New Zealand has never hosted the Olympics. The Winter Games have never gone to the southern hemisphere, and the Summer Games have only been there twice, to Australia (Melbourne Olympics and Sydney Olympics)

[edit] North America

John Bennion, a managing director of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, has suggested the next chance for the United States to host the Winter Olympics is 2022.<ref name="morosi">Morosi, Jon Paul. Reno has also expressed interest in bidding for the 2014 or 2018 Winter Olympics.<ref name="morosi"/>

Quebec City, Canada is also considering a bid. [citations needed] The city bid for the 2002 Winter Olympics, but lost to Salt Lake City. If the games were to be awarded to Quebec City, it would mark the second time that the province of Quebec has hosted an Olympic Game, having done so in Montreal for the 1976 Summer Olympics. It would also mark the third Winter Olympics awarded to Canada, having previously hosted Calgary 1988 and Vancover 2010.

Officials from Quebec and the State of New York have met to discuss the possibility of a joint bid between Lake Placid and Montreal.<ref name="seguin">Rheal Seguin.
