7 Race Course Road

7, Race Course Road is the official residence of the Prime Minister of India. However, this is not considered the Prime Minister's office. The Prime Minister's official office is the North Block.
3, Race Course Road is the Private Residential Zone for the PM though he operates from 7, Race Course Road.
The current Race Course road residence was selected by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi after the assassination of Indira Gandhi. She used to live at 1 Safdarjung Road which was turned into a memorial. Former PM V P Singh Made it into a permanent residence of the Prime Minister.
The first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru lived at Teen Murti House. Which used to be the residence of the chief of Services in the British times. Later Lal Bahadur Shastri lived at 10 Janpath a house later shared by his widow Lalitha Shastri and The chief of the ruling coalition and President of Congress party Sonia Gandhi.

In 2003, there were reports of someone selling the PM residence, 7 Race Course Road to someone from England.
On June 28 2006, 3 youngsters tried to get into 7 Race Course Road in a black Hyundai Sonata breaching the residence's security cordon. The incident is currently under investigation.
