A. G. Lafley
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Alan George Lafley, M.B.A. (born June 13, 1943) is an American businessman born in Keene, New Hampshire. Lafley graudated with a B.A. from Hamilton College in 1969 and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1977 (after serving in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War). Lafley joined Procter & Gamble just after his graduation, in 1977. Still with the company, he currently is chief executive officer and executive director, having assumed office in 2000.
He often is credited with revitalizing the company<ref>http://www.alumni.hbs.edu/news_events/alumni_achievement/2004_lafley.html</ref> with methods such as focusing on already successful P&G brands like Crest, Tide, and Pampers instead of trying to develop new brands<ref>http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/03_27/b3840001_mz001.htm</ref>. Some of the turning points of Lafley's career include P&G's acquiring the Crest electric toothbrush [1]. Lafley's handling of Crest allowed it to regain a foothold in the oral hygiene business from Colgate in 1998<ref>http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/03_02/b3815625.htm</ref>.
Along with Procter & Gamble, Lafley also is a member of the General Electric Board of Directors.
