(Redirected from AIK)
Allmänna Idrottsklubben, usually called AIK, located at Solna, just north of Stockholm, is one of the oldest and largest sports associations in Sweden. Founded in 1891 in Stockholm by Isidor Behrens, the association has spawned numerous separate departments in different sports such as football, floorball, ice hockey, bandy, golf and handball. The club's full name roughly translates either into the Common Sports Club, referring to Allmän idrott, which, in the early 1900s, was the Swedish expression for athletics, or the Public Sports Club, as opposed to the private sports clubs which were common at time.
