AO-51

AO-51 is the in-orbit name designation of an amateur radio satellite (AMSAT) of the OSCAR series; formerly known as ECHO. It was launched on June 29, 2004 from Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan on a Dnepr launch vehicle. It is in sun synchronous low Earth orbit.
Background Briefing:
After Project OSCAR started in 1960, it was responsible for the construction of the first amateur radio satellite.
- OSCAR-1 was successfully launched from Vandenberg AFB in California.
- OSCAR-1 orbited the earth for 22 days, transmitting the "HI" greeting you see in Morse Code above.
