In the fictional Star Wars Expanded Universe, the AT-PT (All Terrain Personal Transport) is a single seat light anti-infantry walker developed and used during the latter years of the Old Republic era. It was developed and produced by Rothana Heavy Engineering for use during the Clone Wars, though it saw little actual service during the conflicts. It is lightly armoured and has twin blaster cannons and a concussion grenade launcher, both of which are highly effective against infantry; this is in keeping with its design goals, which were to accompany a platoon of soldiers as mechanized support, enhancing their effectiveness. Nonetheless, its superior agility compensates for its light armor, as exemplified by its ability to cross most terrain, such as: shallow water, mountain regions, jungles, and cities, climb inclines of up to 45 degrees, as well as to cross obstacles which repulsorlift and treaded vehicles would be hindered by. The AT-PT appeared in the novel Dark Force Rising by Timothy Zahn aboard one of the Dreadnaughts of the legendary Katana fleet; most AT-PTs extant were detached to the Katana fleet, and when the fleet vanished, the troubled AT-PT project faltered, lost momentum, and failed. But many of the concepts pioneered in the AT-PT were later re-used in the Empire's AT-AT (All Terrain Armoured Transport), AT-AP, and the AT-ST (All Terrain Scout Transport).
The Empire still uses a very limited number of these walkers, as did the Rebel Alliance and New Republic.
Its most visible appearance, however, was in video games. It notably appeared on the 12th level of Star Wars: Rogue Squadron for the Nintendo 64, and was later featured in the GameCube title Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader, in the multiplayer mode of Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike (both the competitive multiplayer where players could choose between the AT-PT or AT-ST for certain levels and the Co-op remake of Rogue Squadron II where they appeared in their original places), and in the real-time strategy games Star Wars: Force Commander and Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds.
