IMDb profile

A Chump at Oxford, directed by Alfred Goulding and released in 1940 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, was the penultimate Laurel and Hardy film made at the Hal Roach studios. Originally released as a featurette at forty mins long, twenty minutes were later added for the British and European distribution.

The story is about Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy's doomed attempts at a better education. When Stan accidentally hits his head and suffers a case of amnesia, he begins to believe he is actually the upper-class Lord Paddington. This inevitably causes a rift between the two friends.

Supporting actors include Jimmy Finlayson, Wilfred Lucas, Forrester Harvey, and Anita Garvin in her last film with Laurel and Hardy.
