A History of Vodka
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A History of Vodka is a book by V.V. Pokhlebkin.Around 1977, a dispute arose between Poland and the Soviet Union over the use of the term "Russian vodka," which had previously been used by producers in former parts of the Russian Empire, notably Poland, as well as producers such as Smirnoff, who had fled the Russian Revolution. The author of the book in question presented the Russian claim to the exclusive use of the term. It was completed in 1979, and in 1982 the international arbitrage granted the USSR the exclusive use of the term "Russian vodka." To emphasize this, the Soviet authorities introduced the motto "Only vodka from Russia is genuine Russian vodka".
