Aurelia is a peaceful nation located on the southern edge of the Osean Continent. Cold climate and vast underground resources have kept Aurelia out of war and conflicts for many decades.

In 2020, however, the neighboring country of Leasath , under the command of Diego Gaspar Navarro, launched an invasion on Aurelia, using advanced technology such as the Gleipnir flying fortress. The Leasath attack was in retaliation for Aurelia's supposed involvement in promoting civil war in Leasath by aiding their enemies and providing supplies. However, it is eventually discovered that Leasath had an alternate motive for attacking Aurelia. Reduced to a single operating airbase, the remnants of the decimated Aurelian military banded together to strike back at the Leasath forces occupying Aurelia. At the forefront of this crusade is Gryphus Squadron, one of the last remaining Aurelian squadrons. The responsibility falls on Gryphus One to liberate Aurelia and restore peace to the land.

Upon finishing the game on Ace mode and finishing the SP mission (itself needing the player to beat every other mission on any difficulty), the player may purchase the Leasath super-fighter known as "Fenrir". The craft features an extremely narrow profile, angled wingtips to increase yaw performance, and a Coffin-type cockpit. Unlike the AI-flown Fenrir, the purchased version cannot cloak and wields no microwave weaponry; this is more than compensated for, however, by one of the craft's special weapons: a pair of Light Shock Wave Missiles with enough firepower to decimate an entire fleet (one LSWM will destroy almost every ship in the second fleet in the Armada mission, if fired at the carrier, sparing only a damaged Aegis cruiser).

The Fenrir, under development ever since the start of the Leasath-Aurelia War, was the entire reason Leasath invaded Aurelia. Its funding was massive, and Leasath invaded Aurelia in order to gain the funds to finance the project through arms sales. A highly advanced fighter, the Fenrir employed most of the technologies from the Gleipnir, mainly its Optical Stealth and ability to launch SWBMs. When Griswall was liberated by Gryphus 1 and Aurelian forces, Leasath commander Diego Gaspar Navarro fled to Sentry Island, an island in Leasath territory and the location of Archelon Fortress. The fortress was the location of the production facility of Fenrir. By this time, Fenrir was complete, but had yet to be exported. Only about 15 working models were produced by that time. Not wasting any time, Aurelian forces assaulted the area. Depending on the players actions, the Fenrir was mounted with an HPM (High Purpose Microwave), a weapon resembling a purple orb which tracked the target and ignited its fuel tank. Its weakness was that it couldnt ignite the fuel of aircraft traveling over 700 mph. Otherwise, Alect Squadron managed to evade Gryphus Squadron, and got behind the controls of Fenrir. Their skill and the Fenrirs capabilities were a massive challenge, but eventually were bested by the skill of Gryphus 1. All working models were destroyed, except for 1, in the possession of Aurelian forces.
