Acting (rank)

An Acting rank,in the British Army allows an officer or NCO takes a rank, usually temporarily, and assume the pay and allowance appropriate to that rank. A commanding officer may order this officer to revert to the previous rank held. Often this situation arises when a senior officer is killed, and lower-ranked officer can fill the position temporarily until a full-time replacement can be found.
