[edit] Biography
Born on October 17, 1975 and raised in Chihuahua, Chih. México, Adrián Terrazas González grew up surrounded by the traditional music of Central-America, from Danzón, Boleros and Rumba to Son and Mambo. Adrián began developing his musical ability at the age of 10. He was inclined to play the flute with an understanding of classical music and a peculiar attraction to ancient Aztec music. Five years later he took on the tenor saxophone. His grandmother, a “Rumba Nut,” according to Adrian, urged her grandson in that direction, but the young player had already picked out a model for himself in John Coltrane.
In 2005, Adrián joined The Mars Volta on the album Frances the Mute, the band included guitarist and band leader Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala, Bassist Juan Alderete, drummer Jon Theodore, percussionist Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez and keyboardist Isaiah Ikey Owens. On recording with Omar, Adrian said- “Playing with his band has helped developed in me a higher level of awareness and creativity”. Working with The Mars Volta and Omar A. Rodriguez Lopez gained Adrián further exposure and renown, particularly in Europe.
Adrián’s solid performance and versatility grants him the opportunity to perform with a wide variety of professionals in the musical world. Adrián has shared the stage and recorded with Larry Harlow, Erik Unsworth, Lenny Castro, Money Mark Nishita, Jay Azzolina, Los Lobos, for Universal Records The Mars Volta, Ozomatli, Troy Zeigler, Juan Alderete de la Peña, Deantoni Parks, and John Frusciante, among others.
Adrián’s professional involvement with the music has continued to develop under his own corporation of musicians El Regimen with Erik Unsworth, Roberto Serrano Cruz and Troy Zeigler. He also collaborates with some of Los Angeles’ finest players, at the same time, teaching workshops to numerous school districts and universities around the Southwest and West coast areas in addition to the northern and central region of México.
