Bruckner was born in Hollywood, California to Hungarian and Russian parents;<ref name="heritage">Reports differ on whether her father is Russian and her mother is Hungarian, or vice versa (her father is Hungarian and her mother is Russian); first-hand source needed</ref> she speaks both languages fluently. She has two sisters and a brother. Bruckner grew up in Oregon, but moved back to California with her parents in order to pursue an acting career.

Bruckner began acting in the late 1990s, and appeared on the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful, among other minor roles in television and film, including parts in the 2001 film The Glass House and the 2002 thriller Murder by Numbers. Her first major role was in 2003's independent film, Blue Car, where she played a student involved in an illicit relationship with her teacher (played by David Strathairn). Film critic Roger Ebert wrote that Bruckner "negotiates this difficult script with complete conviction".<ref name="ebert">RogerEbert.com. Blue Car review. Retrieved on March 16, 2006.</ref>
Bruckner appeared in episodes of the television series 24 and Alias. She starred in the horror film, Venom, which was released in September 2005 and had a generally negative reception. Her upcoming films include The Woods, another horror film, and Peaceful Warrior, a drama co-starring Scott Mechlowicz.
