Akhtubinsk

Akhtubinsk (Russian: Ахту́бинск) is a town in Astrakhan Oblast, Russia. It is located at 48°18′N 46°9′E, on the left bank of the Akhtuba River (an arm of the Volga). Population: 44,100 (2005 est.); 45,542 (2002 Census); 30,000 (1968).

Akhtubinsk was founded in 1959 by the merging of three settlements named Vladimirovka, Petropavlovskoye, and Akhtuba.
