Alejandro Encinas Rodríguez is a left-wing Mexican politician affiliated with the Party of the Democratic Revolution. He is the current Head of Government of the Federal District.

Alejandro Encinas has a degree in economics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. He is a former researcher of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean and served twice in the Chamber of Deputies (19851988 and 19911994).

In 2000 he ran for chief administrator (in Spanish: delegado) of Álvaro Obregón, a borough of Mexico City. He lost against the conservative Luis Eduardo Zuno Chavira.

Encinas Rodríguez served in the cabinet of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) until AMLO's resignation. He has been the current Head of Government of the Federal District since August 1, 2005.

Encinas' official support of AMLO's campaign, his allowing the blockade of important avenues in Mexico City as a protest against the results of the Mexican general election, 2006, and allegations of providing public funds to the campaign, have led to complaints of unethical behaviour by his government.
