All Eyez on Me is a double album by rapper Tupac Shakur, released on February 13, 1996 (see 1996 in music). The album has become one of the most influential albums in hip hop history and is often considered one of the crowning achievements of 1990s rap. The album reached Platinum qualification in only 4 hours<ref>Tupac Shakur Legacy</ref>, and reached #1 on the Billboard 200 charts. Although the album has sold over 7 million copies<ref>August 2006, The Source</ref> which would make it qualify for Diamond status, since each sale of a double-album counts as two. The albums is one of the highest selling albums in hip-hop. The album was last certified 9x Platinum by the RIAA in 1999. All Eyez on Me was released after Suge Knight, CEO of Death Row Records, bailed Shakur out of jail as a part of Shakur's contract to sign with Death Row Records; this double-album served as the first two records of his three album contract.
The songs on All Eyez on Me are, in general, unapologetic celebrations of what is called in the idiom the thug lifestyle. Though there is the occasional reminiscence about past and present friends, it is a definite move away from the social and political consciousness of 2Pacalypse Now, or the later soul-searching of Me Against the World.
All Eyez on Me was recorded after Death Row Records CEO Suge Knight bailed Shakur out of jail as a part of Shakur's contract to sign with Death Row; this double-album served as the first two records he owed. He arrived in the studios literally hours after being released from prison to begin work on this 27 track hip-hop tour de force. The prolific rapper finished this album in only two weeks<ref>http://www.mp3.com/albums/181834/reviews.html All Eyez on Me</ref>.
The album features occasion guest spots from Tupac regulars Thug Life and newly-created group The Outlawz, as well as Snoop Dogg, among other guests. Most of the album was produced by Daz Dillinger and Johnny "J", with help from Dr. Dre on the songs "Can't C Me" and "California Love".
