Allen Press [1] is a printer and publisher of scientific, academic and scholarly journals. Founded by Harold Allen in 1935, the company is located in Lawrence, KS. The current president is Harold Allen's son, Rand Allen. In September, 2005, Rand Allen hired former Remel CFO Gerald Lillian as CEO. Allen Press outsources much of its typesetting work to China, through the commercial typesetting firm Charlesworth [2]. It has specialized in the publishing of journals on behalf of small learned societies, especially in the biological sciences.

More recently, Allen Press is now associated with the SPARC funded cooperative, BioOne, which produces these journals in an electronic format, available as a package.
