Alma Afrobeat Ensemble

Alma Afrobeat Ensemble (AAbE) is a musical group consisting of 10-15 members, originated in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, USA. They play Afrobeat music, originated by Fela Kuti of Nigeria. AAbE members include Aaron Feder, John Heinz, Brad Decker, Michael Carberry, Heidi Radtke, Gordon Kay, Ari Rosenberg, Andrew Schurmann, Andy Schumm, Grego Spero and Dave Dickey, among others. Their original tunes are reminiscent of Fela Kuti as well as African funk from Ghana in the 1970's. Ethnomusicologists and fans alike have praised the authenticity of the vibe found at AAbE shows.
