Alper is a common Turkish man's first name. It is composed of the two words alp and er the first of which means brave or hero, and the second er means soldier or male. Additionally Alper is used as an adjective for an ancient Turkish commander Tunga who lived around 300 B.C.

Alper also seems to be a Jewish last name, thought to be a variant of Halpern. Alper is also thought to be a Dutch name, a shortened form of Alpert.nl:Alper
