Anarchists were prominent in the Swedish Social Democratic Party in the 1880s but were eventually expelled in 1891. Undeterred they became more active Sweden's growing labour movement, eventually becoming strong enough to found their own Anarcho-Syndicalist trade union-the Sveriges Arbetares Centralorganisation in 1910. By 1922 it had 32,000 members and it remains a significant force to be reckoned with in Sweden today, with its own daily paper and youth federation.
