Eriksson is a big defenseman who has great offensive skills, but is known to make mistakes on defense.<ref name="EliteProspects-profile">Anders Eriksson. Elite Prospects. Retrieved on January 7, 2006.</ref> He was drafted 1st (23rd overall) in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft by Detroit Red Wings, after being discovered by pro-scout Wilson McCutchan.[citation needed]
In the NHL Eriksson has played for the Detroit Red Wings (4 seasons), Chicago Blackhawks (3 seasons), Florida Panthers (2 seasons), Toronto Maple Leafs (2 seasons), and Columbus Blue Jackets (1 season). He has also played for St. John's Maple Leafs, Syracuse Crunch, and Springfield Falcons of the AHL.<ref name="EliteProspects-profile"/>
