Anglo-Chinese Junior College, (abbr. ACJC) Singapore opened in 1977 and is the Junior College arm of the ACS family. ACJC offers the standard two-year pre-university programme, with students taking the GCE A-Levels in their second year. The school is located at 25 Dover Close East. In the late 1990s, the campus was upgraded and extended, and a sports complex was built. It was the first Junior College in Singapore to have a sports field and a running track (built in 1977).

ACJC continues to produce a steady stream of all-rounded individuals, from President's scholars to the some of the outstanding sports boys and girls in the country. Between 2001-2006, ACJC produced 5 students with the perfect score of 9 distinctions, and in 2006 contributed to 2 of the 4 President Scholars. Beyond the academic realm, ACJC has also done well as in the sporting and arts arenas. Rugby, swimming, hockey, Netball and Water Polo are some examples of sports that ACJC has dominated for many years, often finishing the season either 1st or 2nd. Its main rival Raffles Junior College often competes with ACJC in a large variety of sports.

In the performing arts scene, the choir is the flagship of the school. The choir often competes in international singing competitions, winning the first position in almost every event in which they compete, and at the same time reigning as one of the best choirs among the schools in Singapore. Another very prominent performing arts CCA is the ACJC Drama Club, or ACSian Theatre, which has an excellent reputation in the Singapore Arts community. They are the defending champions of the Play of the Year title for three consecutive competition years in the Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging (Drama SYF) and was also the only school that was awarded Gold with Honours in 2006 for their play The Guys. Some of the many productions put up by the group include Camelot, In Quest of Conscience, A Christmas Carol (2005), William Shakespeare's The Tempest (2006) and "Beauty and The Beast" (2006) . The ACJC Symphonic Band and Sting Ensemble have also shown impressive talents at their annual concerts Muse and Kronos respectively. Both groups having won Gold in the 2005 SYF with The Chinese Orchestra winning the silver award. Other performing groups include The Guitar Ensemble, and The Dance Club which comprises of both chinese and contemporary dance.

The current principal is Mrs. Kelvyna Chan (2003 - present), and the vice principals are Mr. Joel Mak and Mr. Loo Ming Yaw the former HOD of Science. Former principals include Mr. Wan Fook Weng and Mrs. Lim Han Soon.

[edit] Students' Council

Members of the ACJC Students' Council, with a strength of about forty, are selected through an annual college-wide election. At the annual June Camp, council-elects are mentally and physically trained by their senior councillors. The elects then receive their appointment on the Council Investiture Day, marking the hand-over of duties from the senior council.

At the moment, the 31st Students' Council is in charge of organising projects and functions for the college. These include orientation, open house, Teachers' Day and Seniors' Night. The council also rallies student support for important competitions that the college participates in. The council serves as a liaison body between the students and the staff and administration of the college. The 31st Students' Council motto is: Above All, Through All, In Us All - Many Hearts, One Spirit.

A landmark event that the previous Students' Council, the 30th Students' Council, organised was ACS Idol, a singing contest for students from 3 of the 6 ACS Schools. The competition culminated with the Grand Finals on the 2nd of June, with Yuresh Enriquez (ACS Barker Road) being crowned the first ever ACS Idol.

The Anglo-Chinese Students' Council comprises of the following sub-committees: CCA, College Welfare, Public Relations and Sales.

[edit] Sporting Achievements

ACJC are traditional powerhouses in rugby, swimming, water polo, badminton, golf, billiards, netball, air rifle and track & field.

Prior to 1998, the ACJC cross-country team was still part of the track & field team without a separate identity. However, ever since it became an independent CCA and had its own streamlined training program and coaching staff, the ACJC cross-country team has enjoyed tremendous success, most importantly in the national schools championships.

The greatest achievement thus far was undoubtedly the back-to-back hat-trick of national inter-schools team gold from 2001, 2002 and 2003 for the boys’ team. The girls’ team landed the championship in 1999, and has constantly emerged among the top 3 teams ever since. Even though the races have since been shifted from MacRitchie Reservoir to Sentosa and now finally to the Old Turf Club, the ACJC cross-country team continues to excel. In 2002 and 2003, the boys' team swept back-to-back individual champions. Their latest win in the national inter-school cross-country championships is in 2006. Yet another notable achievement was in 2001, when the top 3 runners of the inter-schools national track & field championships 800m event came from the ACJC x-country team.

[edit] Fun-O-Rama

This biennial fundraiser has been a milestone of the lives of ACJC students for decades. Essentially a fun fair, where students and teachers set up elaborate booths for either games or the sale of food and memorabilia. Famous attractions are the haunted houses and the dunking station in which prominent members of the student body and the faculty participate. Coupon sales typically begin weeks before the day of the event, and statistics on the sales by various classes are published to encourage students. Alumni of the school tend to be the largest supporters of the event.

The Fun-O-Rama is a huge event which involves the entire school and her alumni (as well as the entire ACS family), and the funds generated over the years have helped the junior college construct a sports complex, as well as giving the entire premises a facelift, including new extensions and buildings. Besides the primary aim of raising funds, Fun-O-Rama helps bond the classes as they embark on their fund-raising projects.

Fun-O-Rama XVIII was held on 18 February 2006, in support for the new Centre for Performing Arts. It has been a tradition passed down for 35 years now.
