Another place (Parliament)

Another place or the other place is a euphemism used in the Parliament of the United Kingdom. When speaking in the British House of Commons, a Member of Parliament will not speak directly of the House of Lords, but will instead usually refer to it as another place. Likewise a member of the House of Lords will usually refer to the Commons as another place. The parliamentary website gives no origin for this practise, merely describing it as traditional.
A similar tradition exists in the Parliament of Canada, where members of the Senate refer to the House of Commons as the other place, and vice versa.
