[edit] Medieval Period

During the Medieval Period in Europe, philosophy was at an almost standstill. Christianity had caused a rebirth in the "other-world" philosophy of Plato, leaving "this-world" philosophy in the hands of Muslim philosophers such as Avicenna and Averroes who looked to Aristotle for their philosophy. Platonism did not concern itself with humanity or the world around us, but with abstract Forms and Ideas. Philosophers such as Averroes then committed themselves with the conflict between religion and philosophy, adapting Aristotelian philosophy to fit his Muslim world-view.
