Arrondissements of the Jura département
In France, the chief town of an arrondissement is known as the sous-préfecture. When an arrondissement contains the préfecture (capital) of the département, that préfecture is the capital of the arrondissement, acting both as a préfecture and as a sous-préfecture. The Jura département of France has 3 arrondissements. These are:
- Arrondissement of Dole, (sous-préfecture: Dole) with 10 cantons and 130 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 76,433 in 1990, and was 77,078 in 1999, an increase of 0.84%.
- Arrondissement of Lons-le-Saunier, (préfecture of the Jura département: Lons-le-Saunier) with 19 cantons and 344 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 122,031 in 1990, and was 122,373 in 1999, an increase of 0.28%.
- Arrondissement of Saint-Claude, (sous-préfecture: Saint-Claude) with 5 cantons and 71 communes. The population of the arrondissement was 50,295 in 1990, and was 51,406 in 1999, an increase of 2.21%.fr:Arrondissements du Jura
