Artificial whitewater

Image:Eiskanal Augsburg.jpg An Artificial whitewater course (AWWC) is a training site for whitewater kayaking, whitewater Racing, whitewater rafting, playboating and slalom canoeing with artificially generated currents. They work either by natural river flow, pumping water or tidal action.

See the Olympic Canoe/Kayak Slalom Centre (Athens), the Penrith Whitewater Stadium and the U.S. National Whitewater Center.

In the United Kingdom, the main AWWCs are located at "Holme Pierrepont" in Nottingham, the Nene whitewater centre in Northampton, Teesside and the Canolfan Tryweryn in North Wales. Others are planned for other locations, including a new course in London for the 2012 Olympics
