Ask and Embla
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Image:Faroe stamp 430 The First Human Beings.jpg In Norse Mythology, Ask and Embla (ON: Askr ok Embla) were the first two humans created by the gods.
[edit] Creation
Odin and his brothers, Ve and Vili, were the creators of all nine worlds of Norse cosmology. They took driftwood from a beach and gave them human shapes. Odin then gave them the breath of life, Vili gave them wit and emotions, and Ve gave them senses and speech. These two people, Ask ("ash"), the male, and Embla ("elm"), became the progenitors of all humanity; they lived in Midgard.
