Atreyu is a metalcore band from Orange County, California, consisting of vocalist Alex Varkatzas, Guitarists Dan Jacobs and Travis Miguel, bassist Marc McKnight and drummer/vocalist Brandon Saller. The band was formed as "Retribution" and later changed their name to "Atreyu" after the Atreyu character from The Neverending Story [1].

[edit] History
The band released two independent albums before being signed to Victory Records. Following their signing, the band released their debut album, Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses (2002). Two singles were released from the album, "Ain't Love Grand" and "Lip Gloss and Black." The latter quickly became a staple of the band's live shows and is frequently performed last. On June 29, 2004, Atreyu's The Curse was released and peaked at No. 32. Two singles were released from the album, "Right Side of the Bed" and "The Crimson." The Curse was much more polished than Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses and Varkatzas' lyrics saw a major improvement[2]. They have also been heard playing the song "Bleeding Mascara" to start off their live shows based on its fast pace.
Atreyu's latest release, A Death-Grip on Yesterday, was released on March 28, 2006. It has a much more mainstream approach than Atreyu's previous albums and features Varkatzas exploring much more melodic vocals. Singles that has been released from A Death-Grip on Yesterday, "Ex's and Oh's", and "The Theft." The video for "The Theft" has been played on the International Music Feed.
On October 4, 2006 it was announced that the band had left Victory Records, and signed with Hollywood Records.[3]
[edit] Tour
Atreyu has performed on several of their own headlining tours to support their albums. They have also performed on the 2005 edition of the Warped Tour, and also on the second stage of the 2004 and 2006 editions of Ozzfest. Atreyu currently has a fall 2006 tour, titled the World Championship Tour, planned, with bands From First to Last, Chiodos, and Every Time I Die. This headlining tour will also take in Britain with 36 Crazyfists, Chiodos and 3 in support. From First To Last is no longer on the tour. (See From First to Last for more information.)
