Authenticity

Within the arts, archaeology, the study of antiques, and similar fields involving unique or scarce artifacts from the past, and, with regard to documents in law, authenticity refers to the truthfulness of origins, attributions, commitments, sincerity, and intentions; not a copy or forgery. Authenticity may mean:
- Authenticity (art), describes how individuals expericence art as being authentic, real or original as opposed to being commercial
- Authenticity (philosophy), a particular way of dealing with the external world
- Authenticity (psychology), a psychological concept in which the individual derives gratification and positive emotions from exercising signature strengths
Authenticity can be used in relation to:
- Archaeological forgery is the process of creating works lacking authenticity in that they claim a false ancient origin and history
- Authenticity (reenactment), in historical reenactment, a measure of how close an item, prop, action, weapon, or custom is, to what would actually have been used or done in the time period being depicted
- Art forgery is the process of creating works of art lacking authenticity in that they claim a false history or origin
Authentic, the adjective form of authenticity, may mean:
