Avant Garde (band)

Avant Garde (1987-1989) (later Zoom) was a progressive metal band consisting of Kevin Ridel (later of Ridel High, Peel & AM Radio) on vocals, Rivers Cuomo (of Weezer) on lead/rhythm guitar (then known as Peter Kitts), Justin Fisher (later of Shufflepuck and Psoma) on bass, Bryn Mutch on percussion, and Eric Ridel/Michael Stanton (Zoom) on lead/rhythm guitar.

This demo was printed on black-shelled cassettes with plain, light-blue label stickers on one side. There were probably fewer than 50 copies printed. The lineup for this demo was as follows: Kevin Ridel (vocals), Peter Kitts (guitar), Justin Fisher (bass) & Bryn Mutch (drums).

This demo was printed on black-shelled cassettes with purple label stickers on one side featuring the Avant Garde logo. There were probably fewer than 50 copies printed. The lineup for this demo was as follows: Kevin Ridel (vocals), Peter Kitts (guitar), Eric Ridel (guitar), Justin Fisher (bass) & Bryn Mutch (drums).

[edit] Avant Garde Demo Tape #3: Somethin' Different (1989)

Like the first two tapes, Somethin' Different was recorded in Connecticut, where the band lived then, but this time at Trod Nossel Studios. The tape was professionally duped and featured the songs and information printed directly onto the clear cassette, as well as a black and white J-card that had portrait photos of the whole band. The number of copies made is unknown, but may exceed 100.

There is no connection to the English band Avant Garde working between 1983 and 1986 in North West England.
