The Bambi is annual television and media prize awarded by the German media company Hubert Burda Media. It was created in 1948 and the first recipient was Marika Rökk. It is said that Rökk's daughter called the prize "Bambi" when she brought it home, apparently inspired by Felix Salten's book Bambi, A Life in the Woods. The prize was originally a deer made of porcelain. Since 1958, the deer has been made of gold by the art casting workshop of Ernst Strassacker in Süßen. Recipients winning the most times are Heinz Rühmann (12), Peter Alexander und O. W. Fischer (10), Sophia Loren und Maria Schell (8).
