Battle of Bitlis was battle between Russian Empire and Ottoman Empire during the Caucasus Campaign (World War I). The first conflict was on July - 1915 which the Ottoman forces hold on the city. The second conflict began on ? February - 3 March 1916 which ended with Russian forces capturing the city. The city was the last defense point for the Ottoman Army to prevent the Russians moving central Anatolia and Iraq. After the capture, Ottoman Army asked Mustafa Kemal to organize the defense in the region. The forces under Mustafa Kemals control build a resistance between 1 - 8 August 1916, which 9 August the region was recaptured.
