In geology, bedding refers to the condition where planes divide sedimentary rocks of the same or different lithology. Generally, it is the arrangement of sedimentary rock in layers of stratification. The term may also be applied to igneous or metamorphic rock.

In a quarry, a bedding is a term used for a structure occurring in granite and similar massive rocks that allows them to split in well-defined planes horizontally or parallel to the land surface.
