A benz (symbol:Bz)<ref>Unit2Unit Benz page. unit2unit.eu. Retrieved on 2006-10-23.</ref> is a unit of velocity, identical to 1 metre per second. The name is in honor of Karl Benz (of Mercedes-Benz).[citation needed]

This SI unit is named after Karl Benz. As for all SI units whose names are derived from the proper name of a person, the first letter of its symbol is uppercase (Bz). But when an SI unit is spelled out, it should always be written in lowercase (benz), unless it begins a sentence or is the name "degree Celsius".
— Based on The International System of Units, section 5.2.
