Berry Shirayuki (known in Japan and Singapore as Berii Shirayuki (白雪ベリー Shirayuki Berii)) is a fictional character in the Tokyo Mew Mew à la Mode manga series. She is seen on the last page of Tokyo Mew Mew volume 7.

Berry goes to an all girls school, and has one main friend: an adventurous and daring boy named Tasuku Meguro, whom she later develops a crush on.

[edit] History

After Ichigo Momomiya goes to England to study with Masaya Aoyama, Berry takes over as the temporary leader of Tokyo Mew Mew. She make her appearance in the first volume of Tokyo Mew Mew à la Mode, a sequel of the original. After a hard first day at her new school, Berry almost falls down a set of stairs, but is saved by Ryou Shirogane, who catches her in his arms then gives her an invite to Cafe Mew Mew. She accepts the invitation and later appears there, where she proceeds to admire the assortment of treats.

Being caught by surprise by Ryou (and falling into the pastry display), she runs off embarrassed, and coincidentally, into the DNA injection machine. She passes out and Shirogane gives her R2003, a newer design of the earlier R2000 (AKA Masha). She later names him Ucha.

In chapter four, she meets the other Mews, being Mint Aizawa, Pudding Fong, Lettuce Midorikawa, and Zakuro Fujiwara. She is also introduced to the new villains, who call themselves the Saint Rose Crusaders.

Ichigo also makes a return appearance later in the first volume and they become friends quickly. After that, the other Mew Mews move to her school so that they can be with her in case of an enemy attack. When the Saint Rose Crusaders used hypnosis to make everyone think Berry was evil, the Mew Mews stood by her side.

[edit] Personality

Berry is like Ichigo in many ways, but much less ditzy, and overreactive at times.

[edit] Abilities and Weapons

Her DNA was fused with two animals: the Andean Cat and Amami Rabbit. Upon transformation she sprouts off white-colored bunny ears and cat tail. Berry gains abilities like jumping higher, hearing things from far away and a taste for vegetables. She seems to have no emotion-triggered power.

Weapon: It's actually Ucha (R2003); He transforms into a staff/wand topped with a upside down strawberry, surrounded by bunny heads. The exact name of this weapon is unknown, but many fans refer to it as "Raspberry Staff", "Loveberry Rod", and variations of those.

Attacks: Ribbon Loveberry Check; Ribbon Doubleberry Check (with Mew Ichigo)

[edit] Reception

Many people dislike Berry, because she replaced Ichigo, and seemed to be another Ichigo. She also seemed to know everything about being a Mew Mew the second she first transformed, which is odd because the original Mew Mews had trouble getting used to being a Mew Mew. Also, when she first saw a Chimera Animal, she immediately knew it was an alien (this has led to a few labeling her as a Mary Sue), though this could be because the Mew Mews have been on TV fighting a Chimera Animal before. She also blew her secret to Tasuku a few minutes after she first found out she was a Mew Mew, while Ichigo kept it from Masaya until book 5 (this has led to many labeling her as an idiot). She also took a school entrance exam just because of their school uniforms, and has forgotten why Tasuku Meguro hugs her every morning. Many of these criticisms could be because A La Mode is only 2 volumes, as opposed to Tokyo mew Mew's seven volumes.

[edit] Trivia

  • She and Ringo Akai are the only two Mew Mews who do not have Mew Mew marks. Her reason is most likely because she is infused with DNA of 2 animals.
