Bible (disambiguation)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The word Bible can mean:
- The Bible, a holy book in Judaism and Christianity (see also the Hebrew Bible)
- "Bible" may be used as a generic, figurative term to describe a book or text that any devotee to an idea should read, or a book that lays out a way to do things in a particularly well-accepted way. Outside the main use, this is the second most common usage. Example: the Gardening Bible.
- The term Bible may also be used as a term to compare another faith's religious scriptures to the way the Bible is for Christians, such as the Tao te Ching being the Taoist "Bible." This term usually only applies to the scripture viewed as central to the faith, so in the above example, the I Ching would not be called a "Bible.":
- Tao te Ching (Taoism)
- The Torah (Judaism)
- The Quran (Islam)
- Analects (Confucianism)
- Upanishads (Hinduism)
- Tripitaka (Buddhism)
- Satanic Bible (Satanism)
- Dianetics (Scientology)
