Bob de Moor
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bob de Moor is the pen name of Robert Frans Marie De Moor (Antwerp, December 20, 1925 - Brussels, August 26, 1992), a Belgian comic artist who mainly drew, and was an early master of, the Ligne claire style. He drew many comic books himself and collaborated with Hergé, especially on several volumes of The Adventures of Tintin.
[edit] Biography
After studying in the Antwerp academy of fine arts, Bob de Moor began to work in a cartoon studio, Afim.
In 1945, he drew Bart de Scheepsjongen in the magazine Kleine Zondagsvriend, as well as stories with inspector Marks, professor Hobbel and his assistant Sobbel. In late 1945 and in 1946 he worked for the magazine ABC and made a lot of humorous cartoons.
In 1947, he began his first French language comic, le Mystère du Vieux Château-Fort, on a story by John van Looveren.
He published in the Flemish papers (Monneke en Johnneke, Janneke en Stanneke, Het Leven van J.B. de la Salle), and worked for Tintin magazine and its Flemish equivalent, Kuifje. His main series there were "Barelli", "Cori de Scheepsjongen", en "Mr. Mus".
In 1950, he joined the Studios Hergé, where he became first assistant. He supervised the secondary drawings of Tintin and his friends. He also participated in the making of the animated version of Prisoners of the Sun and Tintin and the Lake of Sharks.
In 1959, de Moor created De avonturen van Nonkel Zigomar, and in 1970, he drew the episode Le Repaire du Loup in the series Lefranc by Jacques Martin.
From the 1950's until the 1980's, he worked with Studios Hergé, e.g. on the backgrounds of Explorers on the Moon, on the new version of The Black Island (he was invited by the British editor), merchandising, advertising and animated films.
After Hergé's death in 1983, he wanted to complete the unfinished Tintin and Alph-Art, but Fanny, Georges Rémi's widow, after hesitating, decided that the comic would stay unfinished.
In 1989, he completed the second part of The Three Formulas of Prof. Sato from the series Blake and Mortimer, which was also unfinished after the death of his friend Edgar Pierre Jacobs. The same year, he became the artistic manager in the éditions du Lombard and chairman of the CBBD's (Belgian Centre of Comics) board of directors, until his death in 1992.
His son Johan de Moor finished his last album of the series Cori de Scheepsjongen, Dali Capitan, which was published in January 1993.
