Bohai Bay is one of the three bays forming the Bohai Gulf, the innermost gulf of the Yellow Sea, in northeastern China. It borders Hebei province and Tianjin Municipality.

The three bays are Laizhou Bay to the south, Liaodong Bay to the north, and Bohai Bay to the west.

[edit] Origin

The Bohai bay was once an area dominated by the navies and ships of the powerful Korean empire of Balhae. The Chinese called Balhae "Bohai," therefore named the body of water the Bohai Bay in honor and remembrance of the Korean empire that had once dominated modern-day Manchuria.
