Boutonniere
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A boutonniere, also buttonhole (British English), is a flower or floral decoration pushed or pinned through the button hole of a lapel of a suit. While worn frequently in the past, boutonnieres are now usually reserved for special occasions for which a dinner suit is standard like proms and weddings.
The wearing of the boutonniere is a tradition originating in France, and the word actualle means "buttonhole" in French.
It is an American prom custom for the female to purchase the boutonniere for her male date and for it to match her corsage.
