[edit] BVG development studios

In 2005, Buena Vista Games acquired two external game development studios, Propaganda Games, which has four video game veterans as the company head and BVG has given them the project Turok (2007), and Avalanche Software, the developers of the hit franchise Tak. Avalanche is currently developing two announced games -- Disney's Chicken Little: Ace in Action (based on the super hero movie within a movie at the end of the Chicken Little film) and Disney's Meet The Robinsons, based on the upcoming CG animation film. Buena has acquired a third development studio in england Climax Racing,It’s BVG’s third internal studio, following Propaganda Games and Avalanche Software, and the first in Europe, that BVG has added to its development capacity. Climax Racing is best known for its work on the MotoGP and ATV Offroad Fury franchises.

“The acquisition of Climax Racing aligns perfectly with our strategic and geographic goals by allowing us to both reach into new genres and new markets for creative talent,” said Graham Hopper (pictured), senior vice president and general manager, Buena Vista Games. “Adding Climax Racing to our creative family will provide an additional catalyst for our continued growth in the video games market.”

Karl Jeffery, founder and chief executive officer of Climax added, “As a premier, award-winning studio that has created some of the best racing titles of all time, Climax Racing is an ideal component of BVG’s expanding portfolio of development talent." Buena vista games has announced the start of a new development studio Fall Line Studios dedicated to creating games exclusivly for nintendo consoles Wii, DS, and Game Boy Advance.Fall Line Studio will operate as a sister studio to Avalanche Software, another Buena Vista Games team based out of Salt Lake City. The newly opened studio will focus on small-team projects built around usage of the Disney brand. Former general manager of Rainbow Studios Scott Novis has been chosen to serve as vice president and general manager of Fall Line Studio.

"This studio will be one of our centers of creative excellence and it gives us the ability to fully capitalize on our properties and expand our market share on Nintendo platforms," said Graham Hopper of Buena Vista Games. "Scott Novis brings the perfect mix of team building and relevant business experience to the position of studio head for Fall Line Studio. "

Buena Vista Games has historically been a huge supporter of Nintendo platforms and is currently the number three publisher of Game Boy Advance titles in North America.

Fall Line marks the fourth development studio that Buena Vista has purchased in the last couple of years - part of the company's ongoing plan to cut back on outsourced game development and instead make the software on its own. In addition to Fall Line, the corporation owns Avalanche Software, Propaganda Games, and Climax Racing. Disney has a wide array of brands to draw upon, from Mickey Mouse to its more recent hits from the Pixar family, such as The Incredibles and Cars.

However, the company's plans to internally develop Pixar-branded video games may have to wait as publishing giant THQ owns the game rights to the next four Pixar movies.

"It seems like with our brand, the Nintendo platform is a really good place to put our development effort," said Fall Line head Scott Novis.

Disney's Chicken Little is the first game from Disney to hit Nintendo's new console. It is developed by Avalanche Software and is scheduled for release in December.
