Cape Race LORAN-C transmitter

Cape Race LORAN-C transmitter is a LORAN-C transmitter at Cape Race, Canada at 46°46'32"N, 53°10'28" W (46°46′32″N, 53°10′28″W).

Cape Race LORAN-C transmitter used as antenna tower until February 2nd, 1993 a 420.6 m (1380 ft) tall guyed mast, which was built in 1966. On February 2nd, 1993 a fatigue failure of the eyebolt head in a compression cone insulator on a structural guy occured, which caused a swing-in damage, that resulted in tower collapse.

It was afterwards replace by a 410 metre tall guyed mast, which is still the second-tallest structure of Canada.

It was used until 1993 a part of LORAN-C Chain GRI 9930 and worked with a transmission power of 1800 kilowatts. Today it belongs to Newfoundland East Coast LORAN-C Chain GRI 7270, where it is the "Whiskey Secondary".
