Carillion plc (LSE: CLLN) is a British based construction services business headquartered in Wolverhampton. It was created in 1999 by a demerger from Tarmac, which was founded in 1901. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index.

Carillion undertakes a range of construction projects, including roads and hospitals, and also specialises in the installation of technical systems for offices and laboratories. Most of its business is in the United Kingdom, but it also operates several other regions such as Canada and the Middle East.

Carillion has struggled for profitability in recent years and in the year ended 31 December 2004 it made a loss before tax of £6.4 million on turnover of £1,870.0 million.

In December 2005 it was announced that Carillion had made an offer to buy Mowlem, another UK support services firm, for £291 million. Completed in February 2006, the combined group is expected to have sales of around £4.1 billion.

Carillion has been consistently profitable since its launch in 1999. Profit before tax and exceptional items in 2005 was £55.5m and after exceptional items it was £51.9m.

In February 2006 Carillion acquired Mowlem plc, another UK support services firm, for £341 million. The combined group is expected to have sales of around £4.1 billion.
