Castellum
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Castellum is a small Roman detached fort or fortlet which served as a watch tower or signal station.
It is diminutive of castra, a military camp, in turn the plural of castrum or watchpost, and it is from Castellum that we get the word "castle".
