This section covers female characters portrayed by male voice actors and vice versa.

It should be noted that there are exceptions. For example, Edward Elric, Alphonse Elric, Syaoran Li, Gasser, and Orochimaru were voiced by women in the Japanese version, but they were voiced by male voice actors in the English version. Other characters, such as Son Goku, Son Gohan, and T. K. Takaishi, were voiced by females for their younger versions, but they were voiced by males when the characters became older. Mega Man X was voiced by a woman in Mega Man X4, but was voiced by men in later games. Yugi Mutou was voiced by a woman in the first anime series, but he is voiced by a male in the second anime series and in the English version.
