The name monocots (plural, not capitalised) is used by the APG II system for a clade, containing the plants known as "monocots" or "monocotyledons". This group has been given various formal botanical names, including: Monocotyledones, Liliopsida and Liliidae, each with its own internal taxonomy.
The monocots consists of one family, six orders and one further clade commelinids.
