[edit] Appearance

Cheese is yellow in color and somewhat human in physical structure in that he has a head, a torso, two arms, and two legs. However, his head is very large in proportion to his body, his left foot appears to be backwards when he stands in one place, he appears to have two left hands, and he seems to have a slightly hunched back. When not paying attention to something, his eyes are either crossed or looking in two different directions. His pupils are red-like in color, and one pupil is slightly larger than the other.

[edit] Personality

Cheese has the personality of a hyperactive child. He appears to display the symptoms of Asperger syndrome, but writer Lauren Faust said on Toon Zone that this was unintentional. She just wanted both Cheese and his creator Louise to have "weird" personalities, <ref>http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?p=2347190#post2347190</ref>.

Cheese likes an assortment of things, including potatoes, candy, games, cereal, "fishy crackers," chocolate milk, and the fair. He also enjoys repeating the names of these items to everyone he meets. As well, he is easily frightened by uncommon objects such as cake, sheep, not having a spoon, spiders, something Coco said, and other assorted oddities. He is prone to screaming at ear-piercing tones when frightened. He is lactose intolerant, and is therefore not allowed to have his beloved chocolate milk.

Cheese tends to wander off on his own often. He also cannot stand bright flashes such as those from cameras. He may watch movies from time to time and may try to imitate them. In the episode "The Big Cheese," he grabs a carrot and sneaks up on Eduardo in the shower, stabbing him repeatedly (while causing no harm) and saying "I... found... a... CARROT!" This is a parody of the famous scene from the Alfred Hitchcock film Psycho.

Cheese confuses many different animal characteristics. In "Mac Daddy," he calls mice "Doggies", rabbits a "kitty", and a dog a "bunny". In "Infernal Slumber," he called Mac's older brother Terrence a "doggie" when he said "Quiet, doggie!! Shhhhhhhhhhhh!!"

Cheese's eccentricity matches his owner Louise's sense of normal; she wears non-matching clothing, has terribly cut hair, and possesses a retainer. He also loves visiting Foster's, even though he does not live there. Everyone at Foster's keeps saying "Cheese, you don't live here! Go home!" to which he replies vacuously after a raspy breath: "Okay," but does not actually leave, but instead he just appears in another area of the house. He is then told to go home again, and the cycle continues.

[edit] History

When Mac woke up next to this friend at the start of "Mac Daddy," he assumed that he had inadvertently created him. Mac took Cheese to Foster's, where Cheese was allowed to stay there under the same conditions as Bloo. Madame Foster had a fun time making puns of their names, such as "Mac and Cheese," "Bloo Cheese," and "Bloo, Mac and Cheese." Cheese annoyed Bloo to no end, and Bloo tried to get rid of him multiple times. Cheese managed to escape each time, but it was all fun and games for him literally. After a guilt trip by Mac, Bloo eventually came to appreciate Cheese. At the end of the episode, Mac discovered that Cheese was not his creation when Louise, Mac's next-door neighbor, came to pick him up.

Cheese makes a cameo appearance in "The Big Picture" floating down a river of chocolate milk saying one of his taglines: "I like chocolate milk." He appears in "Infernal Slumber" when he visits Mac's apartment after hearing Goo holding a seance. It is revealed in this episode that his craving for chocolate milk is either false or misguided. When Wilt gives him chocolate milk, he spits it out and points at Coco's (Strawberry) smoothie, saying, "No, chocolate milk!" Here, "chocolate milk" is likely Cheese's term that indicates whatever drink he wants at the time. But he still wants something he considers 'chocolate milk'.He also helped Bloo,Goo,Wilt,Coco and Eduardo figthing Terrance.

[edit] Cheese in "The Big Cheese"

Cheese plays a major role in the episode "The Big Cheese." Because Cheese is owned by Louise, he does not technically live at Foster's, yet he wanders to the house a lot anyway. To prevent Cheese's (and any other) annoyances, Mr. Herriman installs a security system but applies the security code without looking. Cheese, who was watching Mr. Herriman, memorizes the tones made by the touchpad. After Frankie realizes what Mr. Herriman has done and subsequently discovers that Cheese knows the code, she and Mac try desperately to get Cheese to tell it to them. While they are successful in the end, installing a brand new security system to replace the old one, Cheese is still able to enter the house, as he knows the sound of the code.

In the third segment of "The Big Cheese", he claims to have ringworm and gingivitis, and in the end credits of the episode, he claims to have the following ailments: scurvy, dandruff, athlete's foot, a tapeworm, mange, dermatitis, acne, enteritis and tonsillitis. These are presumed to be outtakes by Candi Milo.

[edit] Video Games

Cheese makes a performance on Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends for the Game Boy Advance.

[edit] Other appearances

As of summer 2006, Cheese has been featured in many commercial spots airing on Cartoon Network and its sibling network, Boomerang, and he has become one of Cartoon Network's resident idiots (the others being Fred Fredburger and Billy of The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy and Ed of Ed, Edd 'n' Eddy). He has also been used in movie-theater previews advertising Cartoon Network. He can also be found on intercity billboards next to the quote "I pooted" along with t-shirts that have the phrase, and his "I love chocolate milk" line too. In addition, he appeared with Wilt, Coco, Eduardo and Bloo on a float in the 2006 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, though he did not appear until the end of the song "With A Little Help From My Friends" and had no speaking part.
