Christine Nelson, aka Spike, is a fictional character on the Degrassi series played by Amanda Stepto. Her first appearance in the series was as a grade 8 student on Degrassi Junior High, and was most remembered as the teenage girl with the blonde spiked hairdo, hence her nickname, who got pregnant (by Shane McKay). On Degrassi: The Next Generation, she is known as the mother to Emma Nelson. She is also married to Archie "Snake" Simpson with whom she has a son named Jack.

[edit] Dating Snake
With her daughter Emma attending class with her old high school lover Snake, she saw an old interest in him and begain dating him. He eventually moved in with Emma and her and decided to marry.
[edit] Getting pregnant
Right before the big wedding, Spike discovers that she is pregnant, despite the fact that she was on birth control. When she was about to tell Snake, the father, he suddenly started talking about how he did not want any kids. This left Spike in an uneasy position on whether or not to tell him, and if she should have an abortion. This angers Emma at the fact she would lie and do something like that. She eventually tells Snake, and he agrees to keep it.

After Spike and Snake decide to have the baby, they run off to get married, but since they were close to cancelling, they both show up in everyday clothes, shirt and pants, but still love each other.

[edit] Encounter with Shane
After years of Emma wondering where her birth father is, she tracks him down, only to trap Spike. Shane finds a way to show up at Spikes house, and hold her there captive while she goes into labor with her unborn baby. Emma eventually shows up to save her.
[edit] Helping Manny
When Manny, Emma's best friend, discovers she is pregnant, she runs straight to Spike, knowing she would understand since she had been pregnant as a teenager. Spike helps Manny deal with the news and tells her that in the end, the choice is hers on whether or not she keeps the baby or aborts the pregnancy. Manny does choose to have an abortion.

[edit] Parenting Emma
After the shooting, Emma was an emotional and mental mess. Spike constantly caught Emma sneaking out, and acting out in strange ways that was not like her. She was confused on what to do, and how to help Emma. In the end, Spike pulls through by loving her, and helping her through her issues.

[edit] Snake's infidelity
In Season 5, Spike and Snake’s relationship had a setback when Emma discovered Snake kissing Degrassi’s principal Daphne Hatzilakos in an empty theater. Snake moves out and Caitlin comes all the way from Los Angelos to cheer her up. Snake comes back to give her a bracelet he bought for their anniversary which had her birthstone, sapphire in it. This only upsets Spike even more. After Snake's many attempts for forgiveness, Spike declines. Image:OurLipsAreSealed2.jpg Finally, Snake shows up at the mall where Spike works in a tuxedo, and begins to sing their song. This wins Spike over and they get back together. They eventually got back together and just in time to help Emma with her eating disorder.

Through all the chaos of Spike's and Snake's relationship problems, Spike puts alot of stress on Emma to help her around the house. This drives Emma to the point of losing control of her life and forces her to an eating disorder. With the help of Snake, Manny, and Emma's boyfriend Peter, Spike gets Emma in rehab to recover.

The ska band Skankin' Pickle wrote a song about her called "I'm In Love With A Girl Named Spike".[1]
