Clark County is a county located in the U.S. state of Indiana. As of 2000, the population was 96,472. The county seat is Jeffersonville6.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 974 km² (376 mi²). 971 km² (375 mi²) of it is land and 3 km² (1 mi²) of it (0.31%) is water.

Clark County was formed in 1801. It is named for Gen. George Rogers Clark, who captured the Northwest Territory for Virginia during the Revolutionary War. It was initially divided into three townships.
Jeffersonville was the original county seat, from 1802-1811. Charlestown would become the county seat in 1811, but in 1878 the county seat returned to Jeffersonville due to its growth.

As of the census² of 2000, there were 96,472 people, 38,751 households, and 26,544 families residing in the county. The population density was 99/km² (257/mi²). There were 41,176 housing units at an average density of 42/km² (110/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 90.30% White, 6.63% Black or African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.59% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.79% from other races, and 1.40% from two or more races. 1.86% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 38,751 households out of which 31.40% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.10% were married couples living together, 12.50% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.50% were non-families. 26.30% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.30% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 2.95.
In the county the population was spread out with 24.20% under the age of 18, 9.00% from 18 to 24, 30.60% from 25 to 44, 23.80% from 45 to 64, and 12.30% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 94.70 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.70 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $40,111, and the median income for a family was $47,412. Males had a median income of $32,197 versus $24,033 for females. The per capita income for the county was $19,936. About 6.00% of families and 8.10% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.20% of those under age 18 and 7.50% of those age 65 or over.
